So I wrote a little bit about switching to film before, and now I would like to announce, that I started a dedicated blog, where I will write about my film adventures. I’d like to keep this tumblr mainly for my street shots and everything else will be over here: myfirstroll

The other tumblrs main purpose is to dump some non street/b-roll shots and random thoughts about analog photography and to practice my english.

As for the absence of uploads in the past few months, I am happy to announce, that I’m leaving towards Budapest tomorrow morning, so hopefully I’ll have some stuff to show off, when I come back :)

Thanks to everyone who follows me and provides feedback!

i thought manual focus was good or bad based on you. :)

What i meant was manual focusing a (D)SLR vs. a rangefinder, not manual focus in general. I find it more difficult to focus through the viewfinder of my D7000; I guess a full frame SLR would have a bigger viewfinder and it would be easier? I will test that, when my father gets his D800 ;) The fact, that my focus point always is in the middle of the frame doesn’t matter for me, as on the D7000 I only use the center one, too (sometimes with 3D tracking).

Also most SLR lenses (i.e. the ones I have) don’t have a hard stop at minimum distance/infinity, so you cant guess where you are without looking. The focus tab und hard stops on a rangefinder lens help a lot.

Shooting Film

Today I finally got my film camera and took it for a walk to shoot a first test roll. I have been planning to try film for some time now and I am really happy that I finally managed to do it.

Despite all the drawbacks, I must say, that I really liked the experience of shooting all manual while not being able check your LCD screen. You can do that with a DSLR, too, but manual focus on the D7000 is not that good and whenever I did shoot manual, I often switched back to aperture priority, when i wasn’t sure.

In a few days the first roll will come back developed and I hope some shots turned out good, so I can show you some :) Maybe I will even start a blog on which I will focus on writing about my experience with film.
